In natural incubation, birds flip incubated eggs, with some frequency, to prevent the embryo from sticking to the membranes. Hence, in the artificial incubation process this procedure has to be repeated by mechanical means.

Development of the embryos takes place normally only when the eggs are turned periodically during the first 18 days of incubation.
