3. Virtual archives

In most cases, virtual archives provide online access to digitised data that can be used for certain educational /research tasks. Usually, these virtual archives are facilitated by different institutions. It is worth mentioning that most of the facilitating institutions are museums and not archives. Virtual archives are usually implemented as information repositories that can get queried by visitors through online search forms, but there are many that provide free access directly at the museum’s web-page. The content of these on-line museum archives can include database of lectures and conferences, books, catalogues, collections, etc. Some archives encourage user contributions on the archive’s topic and allow their users to participate in the virtual archive. No matter how they are structured or accessed, they are useful tool and support for implementing different museum educational activities.
