LabVIEW software

The software part of the remote experiment was developed in LabVIEW. The same software was used also to make the experiment available on the Internet.

General information

LabVIEW Software is a graphical programming environment developed by National Instruments. The name LabVIEW stands for “Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation Workbench” and can be define as a program that allows users to control physical processes.

LabVIEW is one of the first graphical programming languages which can be used in data generation, signals acquisition, and can also perform measurements analysis and data representation, by offering flexibility and a friendly user interface.

It contains several libraries with predefined functions which help the user to realized application regarding: data acquisition, data analysis, presenting and saving data, but also storage and transmission of measured data.

Applications developed in LabVIEW can consist of a simple analysis of data from a meter, which is connected to the computer, up to controlling a complex physical process connected with a computer. Everything can be done over the graphical interface.

The following subchapter will introduce and describe the concept of virtual instrument, which is the basic concept for LabVIEW and then a short description of the two windows of the program (user and software).
